November: GRATEFULNESS
Gratefulness
Letting others know by my words and actionshow they have benefited my life
Gratefulness for KidsPicture This!Gratefulness is letting others know by my words and actions how they have benefited my life. Gratefulness is more than a feeling—it involves action!
Practice gratefulness at school by thanking teachers, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, custodians, and anyone else who does something for you.
Thank your parents for food, clothes, and shelter. Say an extra “thank you” for special things such as toys, books, a bicycle, games, music lessons, and sports equipment. Show appreciation by taking care of your belongings instead of trashing them.
Say “thank you” politely or write a note to express your thanks.
Gratefulness TreeDraw a tree trunk and branches on a large piece of paper. Cut leaves from green, yellow, red, or brown paper, and write something you are grateful for on each leaf. You can also write “thank you” in different languages. Remember to be grateful whenever you see the tree.
Supplies:
- Colored paper, scissors, and glue
- crayons or markers
- English = Thank You (THANK-yoo)
- Spanish = Gracias (GRAH-see-as)
- Hawaiian = Mahalo (Mah-HAH-lo)
- French = Merci (Mare-SEE)
- Italian = Grazie (GRAHT-see)
- Romanian = Multumesc (MUL-tsu-mesk)
- Chinese = Xie Xie (SHYEH-shyeh)
- Japanese = Arigato (Ah-ree-GAH-to)
- Swahili = Asante (ah-SAHN-teh)
Practice It!Discuss the following questions:
- What are some things your parents and teachers do for you? Siblings, neighbors, and friends?
- How can you show gratefulness?
- How can you be grateful when bad things happen?
